Around the world, there is currently a lot of uncertainty and panic around coronavirus (COVID-19). You may be feeling overwhelmed, stressed and anxious. It is important to understand that this is a very normal response.
With all that is going on at the moment, this is the perfect time to put together your own self-care plan. A self- care plan can assist you with some ideas around things you can do at home to help you stay focused, make good decisions and stay healthy by supporting your mental health and wellbeing.
What is self-care?
Self-care refers to the activities and practices that we deliberately choose to engage in on a regular basis to maintain and enhance our health and wellbeing.
Self-care helps to prevent stress and anxiety. By incorporating self-care activities into your regular routine, like going for a walk or chatting with friends, you give your body and mind time to rest, reset, and rejuvenate, so you can avoid or reduce the symptoms of stress and anxiety.
Self-care makes you more effective. When you take time for yourself and give your body the food, rest, and activity it needs, you will actually have more energy to meet the demands of daily life – however unusual they might be. Bringing more balance to your daily routine will help you be more productive and more resilient to stressors.
It is important to remember if you are feeling particularly overwhelmed by things at the moment, then you reach out for support from those around you. Please speak to your parents about how you are feeling, or make contact with your House Mentor, Head of House or Mrs Carrick. Another option if to call the Kids Helpline: 1800 55 1800
